I receive hundreds of thank you cards, notes, and spontaneous expressions of creativity from students throughout the year. These come in the form of books, banners, cards, origami, folded notes from pockets, paintings, drawings, and poems. I feel lucky to receive these tokens of thanks. Students usually want me to read them then and there, right in class, but (except for special circumstances) I always tell them that I will take them home and read them with a cup of tea, so that I can really enjoy and appreciate the time and effort they put into them.
Below are some of my favorite renditions of myself. It’s an enlightening and humbling experience to be portrayed by a child. Some make me laugh out load, some make me see things about myself I’d rather not see, and some make my cry. Below is just a sampling of renditions that have had a real impact on me.
