TED Talks: Sunni Brown: Doodlers, unite!
When I was in High School I took a music appreciation class with the notoriously strict Mr. Heldman. He was an amazing music teacher who had no tolerance for anything but being 100% on task 100% of the time. Most of my music appreciation classes with him consisted of us sitting at desks, listening to music. I was an avid doodler in high school and would always find myself drawn to doodle, especially in his class. One day, when I was doodling, Mr. Heldman approached my desk rapidly. He looked down at my paper and said “That’s absolutely the only thing I’m OK with you doing in class while we listen to music. Doodling helps some people listen.” And then he walked away.
